The cosmetic procedure for getting porcelain veneers normally takes multiple visits. Each dental office visit is approximately an hour long. Depending on how many you need to complete, it could take up to two hours.

Traditionally, dental veneer procedures are done by removing a thin layer of enamel from your teeth and bonding the veneers to them. Your dental professional may recommend an anaesthetic to minimise any discomfort, but it is usually painless.

Not everyone is an ideal fit for dental veneers. Dental veneers are a suitable option for minor cosmetic imperfections or severely stained teeth. However, it cannot be used for severely misaligned or crooked teeth. 

A good candidate has good oral health and sufficient tooth enamel, as veneers require removing a small amount of enamel. If you have gum disease or tooth decay, your dentist may want you to get them taken care of first before having dental veneers put on.

It is common for composite veneers to last between 2 and 8 years, while porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 25 years. Generally, this depends on each patient’s oral health routine.

Dental veneers don’t require any special care. You only need to maintain proper dental hygiene to ensure that they last for a long time. Maintain your veneers like you would your natural teeth:

  • Brush twice a day
  • Floss at least once a day
  • Avoid biting into hard food and objects
  • Never use your teeth to open a bottle or package 

Also, regular dental check-ups are recommended twice a year.
