Dental Veneers Can Give You a Flawless, White Smile

Your imperfect teeth have been bothering you. You know that your smile could be better and it’s time for a change.

You may feel like you’re stuck with the teeth you were born with, but that doesn’t have to be the case. There are plenty of ways to improve your smile, and dental veneers are one of them.

Dental veneers can solve a wide variety of dental problems, including chips, cracks, stains, and misalignment. They are thin shells of porcelain or other tooth-coloured materials designed to cover the front of teeth to improve their aesthetics, protect them from harm, and produce a confident smile. At Prospect Road Dental, we offer porcelain veneers that are matched with your teeth’s natural colour for a seamless finish.

Dental veneers are very thin, tooth-coloured shells made of porcelain or composite materials that are placed over the front surfaces of your teeth. They are designed to improve the appearance of tooth structure. They’re made to match the colour and overall shape of your natural tooth, so they look just like real teeth. The porcelain shells change the length, size, colour, form, and function of your teeth. Veneers are also used to cover up uneven, stained, or damaged teeth.

Placing veneers on your teeth can improve their appearance if they have problems such as:

  • Gaps between teeth (diastema)
  • Chipped teeth
  • Stained or discoloured tooth
  • Broken teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Worn teeth
  • Misaligned teeth

The cosmetic procedure for getting porcelain veneers normally takes multiple visits. Each dental office visit is approximately an hour long. Depending on how many you need to complete, it could take up to two hours.

The initial appointment is a thorough consultation, during which we will discuss your porcelain veneer goals. Photographs, impressions, and x-rays may be taken at this session to aid in the design of your porcelain veneers. We’ll send your impressions, as well as your oral and dental health history, to a dental laboratory. After that, the dental laboratory will create the veneers which could take up to two weeks.

Then, your dentist will prepare your teeth for veneers by removing a little amount of tooth enamel. Before beginning the cosmetic treatment, your dentist may provide an anesthetic as a preventive step to minimise any discomfort. Temporary veneers may be provided while you wait for your permanent porcelain veneers to be created. Once your porcelain veneers are ready to be installed, we will schedule another dental appointment.

Once your porcelain veneers are ready, we’ll check to make sure that they are the right colour, size, and shape for you. Then, they will be permanently attached to your teeth with dental cement, and you will not be able to remove them.

Traditionally, dental veneer procedures are done by removing a thin layer of enamel from your teeth and bonding the veneers to them. Because the enamel does not have nerve endings, the attachment of veneers causes no discomfort. Your dental professional may recommend an anaesthetic to minimise any discomfort, but it is usually painless.

Not everyone is an ideal fit for dental veneers. Dental veneers are a suitable option for minor cosmetic imperfections or severely stained teeth. However, it cannot be used for severely misaligned or crooked teeth.

A good candidate has good oral health and sufficient tooth enamel, as veneers require removing a small amount of enamel. If you have gum disease or tooth decay, your dentist may want you to get them taken care of first before having dental veneers put on.

It is common for composite veneers to last between 2 and 8 years, while porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 25 years. Generally, this depends on each patient’s oral health routine.

Dental veneers don’t require any special care. You only need to maintain proper dental hygiene to ensure that they last for a long time. Maintain your veneers like you would your natural teeth:

  • Brush twice a day
  • Floss at least once a day
  • Avoid biting into hard food and objects
  • Never use your teeth to open a bottle or package

Also, regular dental check-ups are recommended twice a year.

Veneers vary in price depending on the number of teeth you want to be covered and the type of material you choose.
