Our Experienced Dentists Can Make Tooth Extractions as Comfortable as Possible

Have you been suffering from tooth pain? This could be a sign that your teeth require extraction.

In dentistry, tooth extractions are a common procedure, but they can be scary if you don’t know what to expect.

We offer tooth extraction services in Armadale that involve the removal of unhealthy and decayed teeth. It may not always be necessary to have a tooth extracted. Still, when it is the best course of action, our team of experienced professionals at Prospect Road Dental will take care of you. We’ll make sure that you are comfortable and well-informed about your tooth extraction procedure. We also offer dentures and dental implants to fill the space left by the extracted teeth.

Problems that Tooth Extractions Can Help With

What You Need To Know

FAQ About Our Dental Clinic In Armadale

We understand that you may have questions when seeing a new dentist for the first time. If your concern isn’t addressed
below, please feel free to contact our practice. One of our friendly team members will be happy to assist you.

To be honest, tooth extractions don’t sound pleasant. But it does not have to be unbearable, though. At Prospect Road Dental, we offer oral sedation to make the experience comfortable and pleasant. Our goal is to make you feel at ease, so we can also arrange for intravenous sedation if needed.

The following are signs you may need to have your teeth extracted:

  • Severe toothache
  • Dental pain that worsens with chewing or biting
  • Swollen gums
  • Stiffness or pain in the jaw

Here’s what you can expect during a tooth extraction procedure:

Step 1: Your dentist will use a local anaesthetic to numb your mouth. It may feel like a filling or other dental procedure if you’ve ever had one. Each tooth will be numb separately, it could take a long time if many teeth are affected.

Step 2: Your dentist may pull the tooth out or break it into pieces to make it easier to remove. Depending on whether your tooth has a large root, there are different ways to do this, but either way, you’ll feel some pressure and some tugging.

Step 3: After the tooth is pulled, you may feel some discomfort as your gums’ blood and other materials are extracted. You might feel quite groggy after the procedure, so having someone drive you home is recommended.

After tooth extraction, your remaining teeth may drift into the gap over time, changing your bite and appearance. Your dentist may recommend artificial tooth replacements depending on your dental health. Dental implants, fixed bridges, and removable partials are some of the artificial tooth options available. So that you can plan ahead, we’ll discuss all the options with you in advance.

Depending on the type and location of your tooth extraction, you can expect to heal within a matter of 7 to 10 days. You must take proper care of your mouth during your recovery period.

  • You should not touch the area where the tooth was extracted.
  • Let the gauze pad stay on the surgical site for 30 minutes. Then it should be removed and thrown away.
  • Avoid spitting or rinsing vigorously. Excessive bleeding may result from dislodging the blood clot.
  • Apply ice to the cheeks outside the surgery area to reduce swelling.
  • Follow your dentist’s instructions regarding any prescribed pain medication.
  • For the next few days, you might have a sensitive mouth, so be careful when you eat or drink anything hot or cold.
  • Eat soft foods such as yoghurt, pudding, and oatmeal to avoid irritating the extraction site.
  • Avoid strenuous activity for one week.
  • Don’t smoke.

It is common to experience pain and bleeding after tooth extraction. However, there are some risks associated with tooth extraction, including:

  • dry socket
  • prolonged bleeding
  • infection
  • swelling and redness at the surgical site
  • damage to adjacent teeth
  • dental nerve damage

The following factors influence the cost of tooth extraction:
1. The number of teeth to be extracted
2. The type of extraction (simple or surgical)
3. The degree of damage to the tooth
